For years, Filumena has been both the servant and mistress of Domenico, who has now decided to marry a young woman from a respectable family. Determined to give her three children a father, she sets a trap for him by pretending to be on her deathbed…

Great Restorations
In the 18th century in Ireland, upon his father’s death, young Redmond Barry dreams of climbing the social ladder. He kills his rival — a British officer in love with his cousin — in a duel, but is then forced into exile.
One of the most beautiful of all Stanley Kubrick’s films, originally released in 1975, this slyly savage tale of social climbing in the 18th century is also arguably his funniest.
The Observer
Ryan O’Neal’s excellent performance captures the shallow opportunism endemic to the title character who is brought down as much by his own flaws as by the mores of the ordered social structure of 18th-century England. Casting, concept and execution are all superb.

Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is a literature professor. He is also a frustrated writer whose manuscripts are constantly rejected by publishers. Each time, they suggest he write works about African-Americans in a more “black” style. Monk then decides to write a satirical and parodic work. He publishes this new novel under a pseudonym. Against all expectations, the work becomes a huge success, particularly among the white intelligentsia…
Elegantly walking a line between absurdist satire and family drama, this is a clever send-up of how the broadness of Black culture gets reduced to cliché.
Empire
Jeffrey Wright and American Fiction will forever be inextricable thanks to the actor’s committed approach to the pointedly humorous and insightful material.

Guillermo's Ghost
In the 16th century, an alchemist invents a strange mechanism that allows access to eternal life. In present-day Mexico, Jesús Gris, an elderly antiques dealer, discovers the Cronos clock hidden inside a statue. The object injects him with a powerful venom that restores his strength and youth, but makes him dependent on human blood. Transformed into a monster, Jesús can only rely on the help of his granddaughter…

“Rosebud.” By uttering this enigmatic word on his deathbed, billionaire Charles Foster Kane seems to reveal the key to the mystery that was his life…
The Orson Welles film is generally considered the greatest American film of the sound period, and it may be more fun than any other great movie.
Pauline Kael
The camera is much more than a recording apparatus, it is a medium via which messages reach us from another world.

Doris Day & Rock Hudson
After listening to his doctor talk about another patient, George, a hypochondriac, becomes convinced that he is the one in the terminal stage. Believing he is about to die, George asks his friend Arnold to help him find a new husband for Judy, his wife. But George’s strange behavior leads Judy to suspect that he is having an affair with another woman…
It is a beautiful farce situation, and Julius Epstein has written it, from a play by Norman Barasch and Carroll Moore, with nimble inventiveness and style.
The New York Times
Jewison's cockeyed comedy works its romantic magic with the flighty entanglement of the Hudson-Day, charming-kooky connection.
Movie Eye
Probably the best of the Doris Day/Rock Hudson vehicles, extracting a surprising amount of black (though sugar-coated) comedy out of the situation in which hypochondriac Rock, mistakenly believing he is dying, thoughtfully tries to arrange a remarriage for his widow-to-be with an old flame.

During the Civil War, three men, more interested in their own gain than anything else, set out in search of a chest containing gold stolen from the Confederate army. Tuco knows the treasure is hidden in a cemetery; Joe knows the name inscribed on the tombstone that marks the cache. Each needs the other. But a third man enters the race: Sentenza, a brute who does not hesitate to kill to get what he wants…
Arguably the greatest of the spaghetti westerns, this epic features a compelling story, memorable performances, breathtaking landscapes, and a haunting score.
Rotten Tomatoes
It still looks a treat and is a bold and largely successful attempt to recast the traditions of the genre in a new, sometimes critical, almost operatic way.
Evening Standard
Of all the great films of the 1960s, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of a fistful that can be truly appreciated only on the big screen.

In 1917 in Rangoon, a colonial official runs away the day his fiancée announces she is coming for their wedding. She then sets off in pursuit of him on an improvised “Grand Tour” through the Far East.
Grand film.
