Focus Algeria
The Battle of Algiers takes place at the height of the Algerian War of Independence in the mid-1950s, focusing on the urban insurgency in the capital. Chronicle of the Years of Fire spans a much broader period and geographical scope, tracing Algeria's colonial past from the years preceding 1954 to the outbreak of the armed struggle. In doing so, it explores the historical and social conditions that paved the way for the events depicted in The Battle of Algiers.
