200 Years of Photography Through Film

To mark the bicentenary of photography, this retrospective brings together four films in which the photographic image becomes a means of observing, investigating and remembering, but also of being deceived. In Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up, a photographer enlarges a seemingly insignificant detail until he begins to discern evidence of a possible murder; in Irvin Kershner’s Eyes of Laura Mars, photography becomes a disturbing vision of violence; in Atom Egoyan’s Calendar, images of places reveal the distance between seeing and experiencing; and in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, the camera becomes an extension of the voyeuristic gaze.

Four films, four ways of exploring the power of the image to record, reveal or transform reality.
