synopsis

In 2257, the starship C-57D is dispatched to Altair IV to investigate the fate of an expedition that vanished without a trace twenty years earlier. As the crew approaches the planet, Morbius, one of the few surviving members of the original mission, warns them that an unseen danger lies waiting on the surface...

Une passionnante somme de paradoxes : un nanar kitsch, une réflexion presque nietzschéenne sur la volonté de puissance, une passionnante transposition de "The Tempest" de Shakespeare dans un (splendide) décor surréel, un écrin pour une musique électronique d’avant-garde (des époux Barron, pionniers du synthé), et accessoirement la matrice de "Star Trek".

If there had been no "Forbidden Planet", there might not have been a "2001" or "Star Wars" or "Close Encounters". It’s gratifying to see that the film that helped make them possible still holds its own with the best of them.
