synopsis
Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is a literature professor. He is also a frustrated writer whose manuscripts are constantly rejected by publishers. Each time, they suggest he write works about African-Americans in a more “black” style. Monk then decides to write a satirical and parodic work. He publishes this new novel under a pseudonym.
