synopsis

L’avocat Anthony Keane accepte de défendre Mrs Paradine, une Londonienne soupçonnée du meurtre de son mari. Dès le début, l’avocat marié est troublé par la beauté énigmatique de sa cliente et commence à chercher les moyens de l’innocenter. Keane fait comparaître à la barre un domestique du foyer Paradine, suggérant qu’il est le meurtrier. Mais son plan mal ficelé déclenche une chaîne d’événements stupéfiante.
