synopsis

It's a festive day in River Junction, a small town on the banks of the Mississippi. William "Steamboat Bill" Canfield Sr. is overjoyed at the prospect of seeing his son, William Canfield Jr., for the first time since he was a baby. He's expecting a strapping young man, built just like himself. But his excitement quickly turns to disappointment when he discovers that his son is a scrawny, frail young fellow with a hopeless sense of style. To make matters worse, he's fallen in love with the lovely Marion Kitty King, the daughter of his father's bitterest rival...

Steamboat Bill, Jr.

Omnibus

Hilarious, of course, with both delicately observed jokes and energetically athletic stuntwork coursing through. But what really delights is the detailed depiction of small town life, plus Keaton’s comic awareness of his own persona.
